Keyword Research

Our keyword research and selection is split into two sections:

i) The Keyword Research tab where you can evaluate lots of different keyword suggestions and select which ones to target for your SEO campaign by adding them as Monitored Keywords and organising them into groups.

ii) The Monitored Keywords tab where you can see in detail how your keywords are performing in the SERPs.

Our keyword selection process and tools have been designed to help you quickly select the right keywords and phrases to track and optimise at the outset of your search engine optimisation campaign.  As your campaign continues you can re-visit these pages to evaluate new keywords that we have found.

Use the filters below to pull in keywords from a variety of different sources.  We check the organic rank and the search volumes and competitiveness for each keyword to help you determine whether they are good keywords to target.

You can adjust the filter to only pull in long tail or short tail keywords and you can manually upload your own keywords.

You can explore as many keywords as you like in the Keyword Research Suggestions table at no charge to you.  The keyword research is not included in any keyword overage charges.

Once you have found a keyword you want to monitor, simply click the add button in the Action column and it will be add to the Monitored Keywords list in the group you have selected.

Your keyword usage is shown graphically and you are warned if adding any keywords will create any additional charges.  Bear in mind, that each keyword and search engine combination is counted; so if you are checking ranks in 2 search engines then adding a new keyword will increase your Keyword Usage by two.

The sources we currently pull keywords in from are:

Your website

We spider your website to try and get a starting list of keywords for you to use. If you have only just added your site, or you have a huge website with lots of pages then it may take time to pull this data in.

Competitor websites

We spider your competitors' websites to compile a list of the commonly used keyword terms and phrases.

Google Analytics

If you have configured access to your Google Analytics account then we will pull in keywords that are generating visits to your site from any pay-per-click campaigns you are running as well as organic search traffic.

We also pull in conversion data, if you have setup 'goals' in Google Analytics. This allows you to see which PPC keywords are converting well so you can evaluate using them in your organic campaigns; and it allows you to see which organic keywords are currently converting well, so you can look at where you rank for those keywords and estimate the uplift in sales and what your ROI might be if you could rank higher for them.

You can also see which keywords generate visits to which landing pages. Please note, this tells you the total organic visits each keyword generated to the whole site not to that individual landing page.

Manual entry

You can also add keywords manually from any external source by copying and pasting them into a simple form.

Configure brand keywords

If you have configured Google Analytics then this form allows you to setup a simple filter to apply across all your keywords. This is really useful as it can help you see what is really happening with your SEO campaign without the positive effects of a large online or offline marketing campaign skewing your data. For example, if you are running a large print campaign you might reasonably expect organic searches for your brand related keywords to rise. If you just looked at increases in organic search engine traffic your figures might seem to be really good, but you need to normalise the data by removing these branded searches to ascertain what real SEO progress has been made getting you to rank for generic keyword phrases.
